Wildlife Travel news, May 2013

Believe it or not, the spring is almost over! We have just two more spring trips left to run: to Macedonia next week, and Mull the week after. The last few days have seen Wildlife Travel groups returning from trips to the Burren, Poland and Romania, where the group not only enjoyed the Danube in full flood for the first time in several years, but were also amazingly lucky in the Carpathians and saw not only Brown Bear but also two Wolves... I am, of course, incredibly jealous.

A couple of new trip reports are now up on our website, from our visits to Costa Rica in February and Crete in April.

With our October visit to Chile now confirmed (still plenty of places if you want to join us for flamingos, Mediterranean botany and Diademed Sandpiper-Plover!), the Algarve looking set to be confirmed in the next few days and our trip to Turkey almost fully booked the autumn is already looking to be a good one.

And plans are well underway for 2014 and beyond... Western Australia in September 2014 anyone?

Wildlife Travel News

It's been a busy last few days.

We've now uploaded details of two new winter holidays to the website: Iceland in November, to enjoy the Northern Lights, and a Christmas holiday to the sun and early spring flowers of Cyprus.

You can also download the trip report from our holiday to Costa Rica in February: we hope to return to Costa Rica in February 2014.

Our group in Crete are enjoying the spring flowers: check Yiannis's blog for some of the photos.

And meanwhile tomorrow will see Chris and Henry set off for Lesvos, while I'm flying out to Ecuador and then on to Galapagos...

Costa Rica 2013

The second of our two groups has just returned from Costa Rica.

This from Charlie, the group's leader (sent a few days ago, while I was incommunicado in the Atlas mountains: sorry for the late posting!):

"Coming to the end of what has been a memorable trip. Over 220 species of birds have been spotted, mostly in magnificent tropical forest habitats, along with howler monkeys, tamandua, peccaries, poison dart frogs and American crocodiles. Local expertise provided by Adolfo (and Orlando the last couple of days) has put everything into context. It's been like learning a new language, with all the excitement that entails but none of the tedious grammar! From the smallest of leafhoppers to the largest of Ceiba trees and everything in between, wildlife here never ceases to amaze. The flowers and birds have provided touches of brilliant colour against the innumerable shades of green. As one of our group pointed out, "It's like being in a painting by Rousseau."
